Thallium bromide is a compound semiconductor attractive for fabrication of radiation detectors that operate at room temperature. It exhibits high photon stopping power due to its high atomic number (81 and 35) and high density (7.56 g/cm3). TlBr detectors exhibit excellent energy resolutions at room temperature (~1% FWHM for 662-keV gamma rays).
TlBr Detector Fabrication
High-pure TlBr crystals are obtained by the zone purification method.
Large TlBr crystals are grown by the Bridgman method from the purified material.
TlBr detectors are fabricated by evaporating electrodes on the TlBr wafers.
